HOW TO MAKE MATCHA MANGO SUN TEA

It’s sun tea season!

We created an extra healthy version using anti-oxidant, cancer fighting, anti-inflammatory ingredients including matcha, dried mango, basil, and turmeric.

Matcha is a type of green tea made by taking young tea leaves and grinding them into a bright green powder. The powder is then whisked with hot water. This is different from regular green tea, where the leaves are infused in water, then removed. 

Matcha, like other green teas, contains a class of antioxidants called catechins. Matcha is high in a catechin called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which is believed to have cancer-fighting effects on the body. Studies have linked green tea to a variety of health benefits including weight loss and heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer prevention. 

Matcha with mango, basil, and turmeric provide a powerhouse of vitamins and anti-oxidants lowering cancer risk, improving immunity, clarifying skin and relieving inflammation.  We also added Yogi Sweet Tangerine Positive Energy tea bags for added flavor and energy/mood boosting.

Mango is also an excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin A and manganese for radiant skin, heart health, vision strength and immune function.

RECIPE (serves 4-5)

INGREDIENTS

6-7 cups filtered water

1 Tbs. dried mango

2 tsp. matcha

2 tsp. dried basil

2-3 bags of organic fruit-flavored tea of your choice (Yogi Sweet Tangerine Positive Energy pictured)

2-3 mint leaves for garnish (and/or added to tea)

DIRECTIONS

Combine dried mango, basil, matcha, and turmeric in tea infuser and insert into large glass jar/pitcher securing chain to the ridge of opening.  (NOTE: Do not use plastic containers as the sun heat can leach toxic chemicals from the plastic to the water.) Add the tea bags and secure lid to hold the tea bags in place.

Brew in direct sunlight for three to five hours. Outside temperature and prolonged exposure can impact quality and flavor. Not enough time and the oxygenation process doesn’t fully complete. However, too much time and the tea can be “overdone,” giving it a slightly burnt aftertaste. It’s also worth noting that different brands have different cook times, and you might need to experiment before you find that perfect amount of time.
